HETCO Uganda – Our Services

HETCO Uganda is committed to improving the health and well-being of communities through integrated health services, education, professional development, counselling, skills development and community empowerment. Our programmes are designed to respond to the needs of adolescents, youth, families, vulnerable communities, healthcare professionals and other groups requiring support.Our approach recognizes that good health extends beyond treatment. It includes prevention, health education, access to appropriate information and services, emotional well-being, professional capacity, livelihoods and the ability of individuals and communities to make informed decisions.

1. Health Promotion

Health promotion is at the heart of HETCO Uganda's community-development approach. It focuses on empowering individuals and communities to take greater control of factors that influence their health and well-being.Our health-promotion activities may include community awareness campaigns, health talks, outreach programmes, prevention initiatives, healthy-lifestyle education and community mobilization.We work with communities, institutions and partners to promote practical knowledge and healthier choices while addressing barriers that contribute to poor health. This approach is consistent with the WHO understanding of health promotion as enabling people to improve their health and increase control over factors affecting it.Our goal: To build informed communities that are able to prevent health problems, seek appropriate care and promote healthier living.

2. Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

HETCO Uganda promotes access to accurate, age-appropriate and respectful information and services relating to sexual and reproductive health and rights.Our programmes can address areas such as reproductive health education, adolescent and youth health, menstrual health, family planning information, prevention of sexually transmitted infections, healthy relationships, consent, protection from violence and referral to appropriate professional services.Sexual and reproductive health is an important component of overall well-being and includes access to information, healthcare and the ability to make informed decisions concerning reproductive health.Our goal: To empower individuals, particularly adolescents and young people, with reliable information, appropriate support and knowledge of available services and rights.

3. Counselling and Guidance

HETCO Uganda provides counselling and guidance aimed at helping individuals navigate personal, social, educational, family and community challenges.Our approach emphasizes confidentiality, respect, empathy and client-centered support. Where a situation requires specialized clinical or psychological intervention, appropriate referral can be made to qualified professionals or services.Counselling may support young people, families, students, vulnerable individuals and community members facing difficult decisions or life transitions.Our goal: To provide a safe and supportive environment where people can receive appropriate guidance and identify constructive ways forward.

4. Career Guidance

Choosing an appropriate career pathway can significantly influence a person's education, employment and long-term development.HETCO Uganda provides career guidance to help young people and other beneficiaries understand their interests, strengths, educational opportunities, vocational pathways and employment possibilities.Our career-guidance activities may include career talks, individual guidance, skills assessments, career planning, information about training opportunities and preparation for employment.Our goal: To help individuals make informed career and education decisions that match their abilities, interests and opportunities.

5. Health Education

Health education equips individuals with knowledge and practical understanding that can support healthier decisions and behaviours.HETCO Uganda develops and delivers health-education activities for communities, schools, youth groups, institutions and other target populations. Topics can be adapted according to community needs and may include disease prevention, hygiene, nutrition, reproductive health, mental well-being, first aid and healthy lifestyles.Health education complements health promotion by translating important health information into practical knowledge that people can apply in their daily lives.Our goal: To make reliable health information accessible, understandable and useful to the communities we serve.

6. Mental Health Support

Mental health is an essential part of overall health and well-being. HETCO Uganda promotes awareness, early support, appropriate guidance and referral for individuals experiencing mental-health challenges.Our programmes may include mental-health awareness, supportive counselling, stress-management education, psychosocial support, community sensitization and referral to qualified mental-health professionals where specialized care is required.WHO highlights the importance of strengthening the ability of general healthcare providers, including nurses, to recognize and support people experiencing mental, neurological and substance-use conditions.Our goal: To reduce stigma, increase awareness and help individuals and communities access appropriate mental-health support.

7. Bedside Nursing

HETCO Uganda supports quality patient care through professional nursing services and bedside-care support delivered by appropriately qualified personnel and within applicable professional standards.Bedside nursing focuses on patient-centered care, comfort, observation, communication, basic nursing support, health education and coordination with the wider healthcare team.The service may be particularly valuable for individuals requiring support at home or in appropriate care settings, depending on the service arrangement and professional scope.Our goal: To contribute to safe, respectful and compassionate care that places the dignity and needs of the client at the center.

8. Consultancy Services

HETCO Uganda provides consultancy support to organizations, institutions, community groups and development partners seeking expertise in health, community development, training and related programme areas.Consultancy assignments may include programme development, community-health initiatives, training design, organizational support, research-related activities, project planning, monitoring and evaluation, and technical advisory services.Our goal: To provide practical, professional and context-sensitive solutions that help organizations improve the effectiveness and sustainability of their programmes.

9. Capacity Building and Mentorship

Strong communities and effective organizations require people with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to lead and deliver meaningful programmes.HETCO Uganda provides capacity-building and mentorship programmes for individuals, community groups, youth, healthcare workers, organizations and other stakeholders.Activities may include workshops, practical training, mentorship sessions, leadership development, community mobilization, professional skills development and organizational strengthening.Our goal: To develop people and institutions that can confidently create and sustain positive change within their communities.

10. Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

HETCO Uganda supports continuous learning and professional development for individuals seeking to strengthen their knowledge, competencies and professional practice.CPD activities may include professional workshops, seminars, short courses, refresher training, practical learning sessions and professional knowledge-sharing programmes.The content and delivery of CPD activities can be adapted to the needs of specific professional groups and applicable professional requirements.Our goal: To promote lifelong learning and continuous improvement in professional knowledge, skills and service delivery.

11. Skilling and Education Sponsorship

HETCO Uganda recognizes education and practical skills as important pathways to individual empowerment and improved livelihoods.Our skilling and education initiatives can support vulnerable individuals, adolescents, youth and other beneficiaries through vocational skills, ICT, entrepreneurship, business skills and selected educational opportunities.Where resources and partnerships permit, sponsorship programmes may help deserving beneficiaries access education or skills-development opportunities.Our goal: To equip individuals with practical skills and educational opportunities that can contribute to greater independence and sustainable livelihoods.

12. First Aid Training

First aid knowledge can help individuals respond appropriately to emergencies while professional medical assistance is being sought.HETCO Uganda provides first-aid awareness and training programmes for individuals, schools, workplaces, community groups, organizations and other institutions.Training can cover recognition of emergencies, immediate response principles, basic first-aid procedures, emergency preparedness and appropriate referral or escalation.Our goal: To increase community preparedness and equip participants with appropriate knowledge for responding to common emergencies.

13. Job Connect

HETCO Uganda's Job Connect initiative is designed to help bridge the gap between people seeking employment and available opportunities.The programme may support job seekers through career information, employment-readiness guidance, CV and application support, interview preparation, skills profiling and connections with appropriate employers or opportunities.Job Connect can complement HETCO Uganda's youth-skilling and career-guidance programmes by helping beneficiaries move from training and preparation toward employment opportunities.Our goal: To improve access to employment information and help individuals become better prepared for the changing world of work.
